Schools Beyond Screens MCPS, an advocacy group created by MCCPTA Technology Committee members, launched a Parent Advocacy Toolkit for local PTAs, parents and caregivers. The toolkit includes two notices you can share with school administrators and teachers before school starts:

-Notice to Schools on the Board of Education's Screen Use Resolution
-Notice to Schools on Google AI Features Posing an Unacceptable Risk to Children

The toolkit also links to the second MCPS Educator Screen Use Survey, which includes questions about cell phone storage. In June/July, 177 MCPS educators responded to the screen use survey, which Tech Committee Vice-Chair Erin Hofmann presented to the Board of Education in her testimony.

Relatedly, schools and families are also invited to participate in The UnPluggEd Project — 1-5 screen-free days from October 5-9. Link to Register. A webinar hosted by a North Carolina Superintendent and Kansas middle school principal will be presented to educator participants in September.
